Get into the habit of following these co-parenting tips

On Behalf of Gemelas, Wilson, Merrill & Fritz Co LPA | Dec 14, 2018 | Child Custody, Firm News |

The thought alone of co-parenting is enough to scare you. You know how important it is to protect your children. At the same time, you worry about your ability to get along with your ex-spouse.

There are several co-parenting tips you can follow to ease the tension and ensure a better future for everyone.

  • Take everyone’s feelings into consideration: Rather than think about yourself all the time, consider the impact of each decision on your children and your ex-spouse. This alone will help you make better decisions.
  • Keep an open mind: It’s nice to find a schedule that works and stick with it, but flexibility is a big part of co-parenting success. With an open mind, it’s easier to maintain peace.
  • Not everything has to turn into an argument: There are times when you have no choice but to push back. There are also times when a minor argument with your ex can be overlooked.
  • Focus on the importance of communication: You don’t have to speak with your ex every day, but you should communicate with them when necessary. You can do so over the phone, in person or via email or text. Just make sure you choose a communication method that allows you to easily get in touch and stay in touch.

If you get into the habit of following these co-parenting tips, it becomes much easier to maintain a relationship for the sake of your children.

Some people don’t want to get along. Some people will even go as far as doing things to make your life miserable. If your ex-spouse neglects to follow the parenting agreement, consider the steps you can take to protect your legal rights.
